Self Portrait 02/12/2011

This started out as a "fake" pixel art experiment, trying to mimic pixel art using vector squares so that I could showcase the pixels at a larger scale. Because I was creating the picture color by color It turned out to be a very fun color study as well.. After finishing up the "pixels" in illustrator, I took the image into photoshop and started dissecting the pixels to get a little more likeness and interesting shapes..

Carniflower

Created another batch of illustrations for LevynLight which are being released within the next few days. Here is one of my favorites that I'm able to show now as a teaser thumbnail. It's called a carniflower and it feeds on skitter bugs known for their crystal qualities. Stay tuned!

Ancient Alien Warrior

Here is a concept that I did for a weekly topic on the Hybrid Collective blog.

I started this guy with only the intention that I wanted him to have heroic proportions. Sometimes I like to work without many intentions regarding the design and the final product. This way It does not put pressure on the design you and you can really experiment and surprise yourself.

A few days before I painted this I had watched an episode of River Monsters about sting rays and sharks. This can be clearly seen in the spike appendages on the back and the shape of the head. I also see some influences from Avatar and District 9, almost a mish-mash of the two.
